Blastocyst transfer center in Lucknow

What is a Blastocyst?

A Blastocyst transfer is a technique used to maximize pregnancy and live birth rates wherein one or more matured embryos are transferred at the blastocyst. Blastocyst refers to the human embryo 5 to 6 days after fertilization. It is that stage of development that the embryo must reach before it is implanted in the uterus. The structure of a blastocyst is very complex as the number of cells increases and gets organized into 2 types namely the trophectoderm whose role is in the implantation into the uterine lining and inner cell mass which gives rise to the fetus itself. Once the egg is fertilized following ovulation from the ovary and embryo goes on to divide as it moves along the fallopian tube, blastocyst formation occurs only as the embryo reaches the uterus.

Blastocyst Culture and Transfer

Blastocyst Culture and Transfer is a technique developed for IVF. It helps to increase pregnancy rates while also minimizing the risk of multiple pregnancies. Through the process of growing the embryos over 5 to 6 days to the blastocyst stage in a lab instead of the traditional three days helps to ensure that the embryos are the best in terms of their potential for implantation and pregnancy.

Blastocyst culture also selects only the best blastocyst/blastocysts to transfer back to the woman’s uterus minimizing the risk of multiple pregnancies.

Why can’t we culture the embryos for more than 5 days?

On the first day, the egg starts in the ovary and is picked by the fimbria and guided into the fallopian tube. It is in the fallopian tube that the egg meets the sperm and is fertilized. The egg stays in the fallopian tube for 2 more days where it grows further before finally moving on to the uterus. It is only around day five when it starts to embed itself below the surface of the endometrium and it is for the same reason why we can’t culture the embryos in a lab beyond 5 days. Culturing eggs beyond 5 days in a lab can delay the process of embedding in the woman’s uterus.

What are the advantages of blastocyst culture?

The major advantage of blastocyst culture is that it increases the chances of implantation thereby increasing the success rate of pregnancy. It also minimizes the risk of several pregnancies.

FAQs

According to Dr. Richa for Blastocyst in Lucknow, in women up to 30, the chance of success is between 45 and 50 percent, and for women aged 30-39, it is between 35 and 40 percent. However, blastocyst culture does not provide the same advantages for all women.
According to Dr. Richa’s Blastocyst transfer center in Lucknow, human blastocysts should hatch from the shell and begin to implant 1-2 days after day 5 IVF blastocyst transfer. In a natural situation (not IVF), the blastocyst should hatch and implant at the same time – about 6 to 10 days after ovulation.
Together, the ICM and the trophoblast are called the blastocyst. A blastocyst successfully implants in the uterus when, as the ZP exits the fallopian tube, the blastocyst leaves the ZP and binds to the endometrium. The endometrium is one of the few uterine surfaces to which a blastocyst cannot permanently implant.
